Conceptual Background
LES NYC operates as a silent, one-minute visual riddle celebrating the cultural landscape of the Lower East Side. Conceived as a straightforward digital rebus puzzle, the work translates the names of three iconic neighborhood establishments into an accessible matrix of symbols. The project rejects literal geographical depiction, choosing instead to invoke local recognition through a clear visual game. Rendered for smooth playback at 30 frames per second, the piece explores how a neighborhood’s identity can be stored and shared through a playful dance of time-based design.
Artwork Synopsis
Constructed through a clean choreography of geometric forms and everyday shapes in Apple Keynote and Adobe software, the animation functions as an approachable non-verbal puzzle. The visual timeline systematically introduces a series of flat, minimalist symbols that shift, interact, and lock into place to spell out local landmarks. By requiring the viewer to actively decode the shifting iconography, the composition bridges the gap between traditional print-based puzzle mechanics and simple motion graphics.
